Chickens on Pasture

Just last week, this was the scene outside....

But now spring is here!  The combination of the greenhouse and the electric/solar powered poultry netting is SUCH a blessing.  While Keith continues to work on repairs to our movable chicken tractors, the chickens are able to get out on pasture right away within the safety of the electric fencing.

And they are able to safely sleep inside the greenhouse, out of the weather.  I sleep better at night knowing they are safe inside - as lots of creatures go "bump" in the night out here in the country.

Yesterday, the hens enjoyed worms and greens starting to sprout.

Dylan, helping the chickens dig up worms - boy were they excited about the assistance.
Fluffy bottoms = healthy chickens.  :-)

Inside the greenhouse, the temp is kept cooler in the heat of the day, by the automatic fan system.

There are plenty of open nest boxes inside the greenhouse, but for some reason, everyone wants to be in this one....!

When kept inside due to weather, the chickens are offered organic cabbage, tomatoes and other items from our kitchen.  They enjoy it, and it keeps them busy so they don't peck each other out of boredom.

The race is on to finish the new chicken tractors and get the chickens back on the larger pasture.  But in the meantime, the eggs still have a wonderful dark yolk because of the outdoor time we've been able to offer.
